Southern Pecan is a true American original and is native to only the United States. The Pecan tree is found primarily in river bottoms and flood plains from the Mississippi Valley to Texas. Being a member of the Walnut family, the Pecan tree has been prized throughout history for its timber and its life giving crop. The Pecan tree is thought to be the only tree cultivated in orchards by pre-Colonial Native Americans.
The Southern Pecan's wood characteristics are unique and versatile. The interestingly patterned Heartwood is pale reddish brown in color with occasional dark, pecky streaks. The Sapwood is white to cream in color with fine brown lines. The grain is occasionally wavy and irregular, adding to the mystic character that makes true Southern Pecan so desirable.
Although Pecan is very heavy, strong and tough, it remains elastic and quite shock-resistant. Hardwood Designs Colonial Series is manufactured from only true Southern Pecan that has been F.S.C. certified.
Hardwood Designs' Colonial Series will add unique style along with a rustic elegance to any home or décor style.
