HAND-OILED SOUTHERN PECAN

unique characteristics of southern pecan

Salvaged Southern Pecan is an extremely wild hardwood species, it’s as rustic on the inside as it is on the outside, some of the unique characteristics that can be seen are color variation ranging from red, orange, beige, cream and a light grey. Lots of darkening can be seen around the cracks in the wood, and as the wood grows to the outer most of the tree the wood gradually gets lighter. Heavy speckling, rustic knotting, and cracking can be seen in most of the samples above. Southern Pecan is a true American original, native only to the United States. It’s found from river bottoms and floodplains in the lush Mississippi Valley to the great state of Texas. Southern Pecan Heartwood is pale auburn, swirled with dark, pecky streaks. As a result, this gives it a visual interest unique from any other wood. Additionally, this makes it an excellent candidate for a natural finish. Furthermore, Southern Pecan Sapwood radiates shades of cream and white with fine brown lines. These lines give it a subtle depth and visual intrigue. Southern Pecan has a strong personality and a distinctive loveliness. We thrive on finding the pieces with the right attitude for your project.
