Salvaged Texas Mesquite hardwood is beautifully unique, it twists, it burls, it swirls, and each board can be so unique from other boards it may not even seem like the same species of wood. Mesquite will show several different hues of color including dark auburn, red, orange and brown. Mesquite is an extremely solid hardwood species, resulting in rich texture and character. It can have both large and small cracks that give even wilder character and rusticity. As shown in the photos above you can see the unique characteristics that you’ll only find in a true native Texas mesquite hardwood floor. We salvage most of our Texas Mesquite from small local ranches south of San Antonio, Texas. These local ranches clear Mesquite trees because they are a nuisance and will grow and take over land if not handled properly, they clear huge sections of mesquite trees to make way for more cattle ranching or for hunting purposes, we are able to salvage mesquite trees from huge burn piles and manufacture products from material that would be wasted. Aside from its beauty, Texas Mesquite is renowned for its stability and durability. Mesquite has a Janka Hardness Scale rating between 2400 and 2600. This makes Mesquite one of the hardest and the most stable North American hardwoods. It’s known amongst craftsmen for being a difficult wood to work with. However, where others shy away is where we excel. We work each piece by hand with the techniques that can only be mastered through decades of experience. Thanks to our long history with this wood we have been able to develop our own cut, style and finish process. This helps emphasize the natural beauty of this wood while respecting its natural character.
