When you want to elevate the look of your rustic wide plank hardwood floors, consider a flooring pattern beyond the typical straight lay. Parquet flooring is a high-end look that adds visual interest and brings Old World charm to a space. Some of the more popular designs include Chevron, Herringbone, Basket Weave, Versailles, Bordeaux, and Chantilly. Hardwood patterns add an element of elegance and sophistication and create a timeless classic look.

CHEVRON

This traditional pattern dates back to Roman architecture. The chevron planks meet in perfect points like a long array of arrows. The chevron pattern is apparent throughout Europe, where it became an architectural feature used to create impactful design definition.

HERRINGBONE

The Herringbone hardwood pattern consists of planks that look slightly staggered. The hardwood pattern includes rectangularly shaped planks with a distinctive V-shaped pattern. It is distinguished from a plain chevron by the break at reversal, which makes it resemble a broken zig-zag. This elegant zig-zag design will elevate a room from the ground up. The pattern is called herringbone because it resembles the skeleton a herring fish.

BASKET WEAVE

A basket weave hardwood floor pattern adds dimension to a room by creating a woven appearance with planks fitting under and over other planks. This intricate pattern adds a depth of texture and visual interest.

VERSAILLES

The Versailles pattern, inspired by the Chateau de Versailles in France, is a hardwood flooring pattern that consists of a border with interlaced diagonals. A design element for prestige dating back to Louis XIV, it was notably displayed in reception halls of castles and mansions. This hardwood pattern will add a touch of elegance to a design.

Wood patterns can be created in a variety of designs, and don't have to follow the standard layouts, giving you a completely customized and unique hardwood floor. Below are a few of the raw and unfinished hardwood patterns we at Hardwood Design Company have handcrafted, with endless possibilities on texture, color, and finish, since everything we do is authentically crafted to individual design specifications.
