The Best Hardwood Floor Installation Patterns

Many people go the traditional route and choose a straight lay pattern for their hardwood floors. If you are looking to elevate the appearance of your home, consider incorporating a different pattern. Choosing a pattern that is different from straight laid planks can add an element of sophistication to your home. Although these patterns are less simple than a straight lay pattern, they can still provide a timeless look.

Chevron

Chevron is a traditional hardwood floor pattern that is seen throughout Europe. Chevron is known as one of the best hardwood floor installation patterns because it has stood the test of time, dating back to Roman architecture. Chevron planks are positioned to meet like a long array of arrows. The planks meet perfectly in the center and appear as arrows stacked on top of each other. With the chevron pattern, you will see diagonal lines where the planks meet.

Herringbone

Herringbone is regarded by many as one of the best hardwood floor installation patterns. The herringbone installation pattern is like the chevron, but the herringbone design resembles more of a broken zigzag. The planks of wood are slightly staggered rather than stacked perfectly on top of each other. The herringbone installation pattern resembles the skeleton of the herringbone fish, which is where the name comes from. Incorporating the herringbone pattern into your home is sure to complement any existing interior design elements.

Basket Weave

Much different from the chevron or herringbone patterns, the basket weave is another option. A basket weave hardwood floor pattern resembles the pattern of a woven basket. The planks are arranged to resemble that woven appearance with planks under and over other planks. This pattern is intricate and gives the room a charming feel. Some people shy away from patterned flooring because they fear it may be too distracting, but that is merely a misconception. Unique installation patterns complement the other elements in the room. A basket weave design adds texture to the room without distracting from furniture or décor.

Versailles

If you are looking for an elegant installation pattern, look no further. The Versailles pattern is inspired by the Chateau de Versailles in France. This pattern can be seen in reception halls of castles and mansions dating back to the reign of Louis XIV. A Versailles installation pattern looks like a border with interlaced diagonals. The interlaced diagonals create a beautiful and elegant design that is sure to elevate any room in your home.
